Professeur Robert Danzer : MasterClass sur la Mécanique de la rupture
A highly original scientific meeting with Prof. Robert Danzer from the University of Leoben (Austria) took place from 9 to 12 September 2024. Invited for a week to the MATEIS laboratory, Prof. Danzer gave 4 talks, totalling 10 hours, at the MATEIS laboratory, on his field of research: fracture mechanics. His talks, which were open to members of the laboratory and students enrolled in the EDML and MEGA doctoral schools, were attended by 25 people, including several permanent members of the laboratory's CERA (ceramics and composites) team.
In addition to these presentations, Professor Robert Danzer took the time to talk to researchers, both junior and senior, about their research problems.
Robert Danzer is one of the world's leading researchers in the field of fracture mechanics of ceramics. He has published over 200 papers dealing with the mechanical characterisation of ceramics, the fracture statistics of brittle materials and proposed new testing methodologies.
Key words in his research include:
- Fracture statistics of ceramics
- Reliability analysis and life time prediction
- Mechanical testing of brittle materials
- Thermal shock and thermal fatigue
- New applications of ceramics
His discussions, advice and encouragement were much appreciated by all the participants and will undoubtedly contribute to the quality of our work. Thank you Professor Danzer.
