Matthieu Bugnet

Chargé de Recherche CNRS

Matthieu Bugnet is a permanent researcher at CNRS (https://www.cnrs.fr/en) since 2016 in the materials laboratory (MATEIS) of the National Institute for Applied Sciences of Lyon, France. MB obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Poitiers in 2011, and was a postdoctoral fellow then research associate at McMaster University (Canada) in the group of Prof. G. A. Botton. Since 2019, MB is a visiting Associate Professor at the University of Leeds as well as a visiting staff scientist at SuperSTEM (UK).
MB is a scientist with expertise in investigating the chemical bonding and electronic structure in nanoscale materials using electron energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS) at high spatial resolution in the aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscope (STEM), more specifically via the interpretation of near-edge structures. Since he started at CNRS, his research embraces both in situ investigations of high-temperature and gas-induced phenomena in the environmental TEM, as well as the application of electron energy-loss spectroscopy at ultimate energy and spatial resolutions.
